Flax Seed Oil is a vegetable oil obtained by cold-pressing dried raw flax seeds (Linum usitatissimum), a plant of the Linaceae family, grown both for its fiber, from which are produced so-called linen garments and yarns, and for seeds, from which oil is obtained.
Flax Seed Oil contains essential Alpha-Linoleic acid (ALA), which is transformed into Eicosapentaenoic Acid (EPA) in the body and also Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA), which is one of the Omega-3 acids found only in Fish Oil. Omega-3 Acids, and in particular Alpha-Linoleic Acid, are present in sufficient quantity only in Fish and Flaxseed Oil.
Flax Seed Oil contains a large amount of minerals - Potassium, Magnesium, Zinc, Lignans, Proteins and Fibers, but the most important components of Flax Seed Oil are fatty acids: Omega-3 (60%), Omega-6 (20%), Omega -9 (10%) and other unsaturated fatty acids (10%).
